Anambra State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Foster Ihejiofor has identified organic foods as most healthy for consumption.
Dr Ihejiofor made this known while receiving members of the National Organic Agriculture of Nigeria, NOAN, who were on a courtesy visit to his office in Awka.
Correspondent Valentine Mbadugha reports that Dr Ihejiofor while highlighting the importance of organic foods, noted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is conscious of food safety calling on NOAN to ensure the availability of organic products for local and international consumption.
He disclosed that organic agriculture has been upgraded to re-genetic agriculture that is free of chemicals adding that re-genetic agriculture is natural and key to healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Ihejiofor also said that the state intends to bring super experts to train Anambra State Farmers on re-genetic agricultural best practices to ensure availability of organic foods in the markets.
The leader of the team, Mr. Christopher Enwelibe while stating the objective of their visit, commended the state government for its preparedness towards promoting organic agriculture.
Mr. Enwelibe expressed delight over the plans the state has with regards to agriculture and called on Anambra State Farmers to utilize the opportunity.
In her own contribution, the secretary of NOAN, who is also the Permanent Secretary, Deputy Governor’s office, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka said the team is bent on promoting organic agriculture in the state through effective partnership with the state government.
MMrs.Uzoka revealed their plans to launch massive campaign and training of Anambra Farmers on organic farming in order to guarantee the practice in the production of agricultural produce in the state.
