The wife of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, and National President of Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, Hajiya Hajara Alkali has empowered over five hundred women and wives of Police Officers, who lost their husbands while on duty calls.
Mrs. Alkali made the empowerment alongside high-ranking Police Officers’ Wives, during her two-day official visit to Anambra State.
Correspondent Emmanuel Chigbata reports that during the event, held at the International Convention Center Awka, Mrs. Alkali empowered the women with food items including, Rice, Noodles, Custards, Groundnut Oil, Snacks, Milk, Detergents and Diapers among other numerous products.
She said she was on her annual visit to police formations across the country to boost the morale of Police Officers’ Wives, by promoting her three-point POWA vision that centered on health, education and welfare.
She noted that the empowerment is to provide support to wives of police officers, who lost their husbands in the course of securing the lives and property of the citizens of the country, adding that the Anambra State Police Officers’ Wives Skill Acquisition Centre, Ukpo, when completed will be a training ground for them to improve on their daily living.
In her speech, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Honourable Ify Obinabo, who described women as agents of positive change encouraged them to always stand for the truth in their various families, which she said is a major step towards salvaging the society.
The Anambra State POWA Chairperson, Mrs. Ikemi Echeng, thanked Mrs. Alkali for her visit, affirming that her three-point vision on POWA is achieving its intended objectives.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Pauline Ajibo appreciated Mrs. Alkali and POWA for their magnanimity.
The event, which also had in attendance, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng climaxed with a courtesy visit to the state Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo and the traditional ruler of Umunya, Igwe Chris Onyekwuluje.
