Anambra State Government says it will leave no stone unturned in ensuring elimination of quackery in the State health sector, as well as making basic healthcare services available for Ndi Anambra in all the Primary Healthcare Centers in the State.

 

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike disclosed this while playing host to the Network of Health Partners comprising Community Empowerment Network, COMEN, Justice Development and Peace Caritas, JDPC, Nnewi, the media and civil societies during an advocacy visit in his office.

The Commissioner, who noted that many deaths would have been prevented in the State if Primary Healthcare Centres and General Hospitals were functional, said Governor Chukwuma Soludo is passionate about getting the health facilities in the State renovated and retooled to ensure that lives of Ndi Anambra are saved.

 

 

He explained that the Soludo administration will adopt the “Fix my PHC” strategy, which will, through transparency and accountability, synergise with the private sector to help renovate Primary Healthcare Centers in the State, with the reward of having their names immortalized on the structures.

He said that one of the agenda of the present administration is to employ, retain, train and pay health workers well to enable a new visible dimension in the health sector of the State.

 

 

Earlier, the Spokesperson of the group, Mr. Okey Onyeka, listed the challenges facing Primary Healthcare Centers in the State to include, poor funding, infrastructural dilapidation, lack of power and water supplies, poor management, poor staffing, understaffing, lack of staff motivation, inadequate supply of drugs, among others.

 

He urged government to ensure the implementation and sustainability of its healthcare goals, as this would go a long way in strengthening the service delivery of the Primary Healthcare Centers, which he said is the objective of the Anambra State Strategic Health Development Plan.

 

Mr. Onyeka also pleaded with the State government to help ensure that health counterpart funds are available to enable the State access the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, adding that the group has been working for three years to ensure improvement of sanitary conditions of the Primary Healthcare Centers in the State, and are ready to support the implementation of the healthcare goals of the Soludo administration.
