Nigerians have been charged to be part of efforts aimed at restoring peace, stability and progress in the country.

 

The Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Anambra State Professor Peter Katchy gave the charge during a ceremony to mark the 2022 World Red Cross Day at Nigerian Red Cross Society Headquarters in Amawbia.

Professor Katchy lamented that the present insecurity in the country is a serious threat to national peace as conflict and violence are forcing millions of people to leave their homes and seek for safety elsewhere as internally Displaced Persons in very difficult situations.

 

He explained that dialogue, treaty and equity are necessary to achieving peace in this present time as according to him development and peace are interdependent and mutually reinforcing sustainable development that liberates the resources needed for development, peace and progress, urging families and communities to be alive to their responsibilities of proper upbringing of children and young people as well as equipping them with quality education.

He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and people of the state for the successful conduct of last governorship election and for being law abiding on all issues of the State, noting that the success of the election has made Anambra State a reference point and model of rule of law and Democratic principles in Nigeria and beyond.

 

While thanking the media for supporting goals and aspirations of the Nigerian Red Cross, Professor Katchy called for confirmation of Mr Gab Okpalaeze as substantive Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service ABS to ensure steady growth and progress of the establishment.

In his speech, a former Chief Judge of Anambra State and life member of the organization, Justice Paul Obidigwe extolled the efforts of Professor Katchy for effectively piloting affairs of the Red Cross Society in the state, noting that his achievements and performances have gained recognition across the country which other chapters have been trying to emulate.

 

Justice Obidigwe said those honoured by the organization was in recognition of their contributions to the society.

Responding after receiving an award, the Acting Managing Director of the ABS Mr Okpalaeze while thanking the organization for the honour noted that like the Red Cross Society, the ABS will not relent in contributing towards making the society better by sustaining campaign for peaceful co-existence to reduce the burden on Red Cross Society in its humanitarian services.

 

Other media practitioners who received award include Director of Programmes ABS, Mrs Nneka Ekwunife, Head of the ABS Reportorial Unit Mr Paul Ezeoke, Head of Content Monitoring News and Programmes of the ABS Mr Abuchi Nwozor, Mrs Maureen Ezeokeke, Comrade Monic Okechukwu as well as some journalists from the Print Media.

 

The ceremony featured cutting of the cake.
