One of the happiest moments in the life of parents is being alive to give their daughters out in marriage.
For Chief Lawrence Anikpe, from Ugwu-Orji village Igbariam, in Anambra East Council Area it calls for celebration.
The traditional marriage ceremony of his daughter, Chinelo Anikpe, which took place over the weekend and reports that the event brought together men and women of class in Anambra and beyond
The compound of Chief Anikpe was a sight to behold as the whole area glittered with decorations befitting the occasion.
The traditional marriage ceremony between Chinelo Anikpe of Ugwu-Orji village, Igbariam and Emeka Ezenagu of Umuogbunu village, Awka, kicked off with the bride greeting their guests with her Ashuaebi girls flaunting round her with glamour and style as they danced to the tunes of a melodious music.
She later came out the second time, cladded on another attire, matching with that of her husband as she showed the spectators her husband by handing over a cup of palm wine which was given to her by her father, just as the Igbo customs demand
With that done, celebrations began in earnest with a lot of sumptuous dishes and assorted drinks as the family entertained their guests
Among dignities who graced the occasion were the former Governor of Anambra state Chief Willie Obiano, Speaker Anambra state House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uchenna Okafor, member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency Chief Chinedu Obidigwe, the academia , government functionaries, traditional rulers including the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka, among other dignitaries
In his speech , former Governor Obiano prayed for sustenance of love, long life and good health in their marriage, advising them to avoid third party.
In their various speeches, the Chief Medical Director, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojujwu, University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, Dr Josephat Akabuike and Igwe Emeka said it is a good thing to join the two in marriage, and prayed for the blessings of marriage to be their lot
The President General elect of Igbariam community, Mr Chris Ofokansi thanked God for uniting the couple, noting that it is a welcome development
The father of the bride Chief Anikpe and the representative of the groom’s parents Mrs Gloria Ezenagu, thanked God for the union of their children and prayed for them to multiply and bear fruits.
To the couple, Chinelo and Emeka, theirs was a union found in love, as they looked forward to growing higher in love till their old age.
The event featured bridal dance and cutting of cake.
