Nigeria’s medical tourism will receive a big boost on Thursday, May 12th, 2022 when a state-of-the art medical facility will be unveiled in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

 

Known as the Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital, Oraifite, the medical facility, fully fitted with high-tech medical installations has become the new hope of the people of South East and other parts of Nigeria who have been travelling overseas for medical reliefs.

 

Beyond the state-of-the-art equipment, the 27-beded facility employs highly skilled medical experts in cardiology, nephrology and critical care from all over the world. The facility’s first open heart surgeries have commenced, courtesy of a team of 20 specialists from the United States of America under the VOOM Foundation.

 

The hospital’s cardiology centre, costing millions of dollars, has major radiology equipment like digital cath. lab, high definition 128 slides CT scan, direct on-bed oxygen delivery, automated ventilators, ICU unit, state-of-the art theatres, to cater for all types of surgeries, X-ray system and other medical gears that are used overseas. The highly automated systems enable the hospital to undertake open surgeries, kidney transplant and dialysis.

 

Established by the Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation, to take both primary and tertiary medicare services to the door steps of the people of South East, the Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital is taking the provision of health facilities to the next level.

 

Free open heart surgeries will be carried out at the hospital in further immortalization of Dame Irene Okwuosa, mother of Sir Emeka Okwuosa, who opened her arms to the poor while she was alive.

 

As a matter of fact, Mama Irene Okwuosa helped to champion the fundamental rights of women and children in Oraifite and beyond, and her motherly care and love still linger on, especially in the establishment of the state-of-the-art Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Convent, Oraifite.

 

Sir Emeka Okwuosa’s commitment and drive to better the lot of the masses, anchored on his mother’s care for the less privileged was also demonstrated during the COVID 19 pandemic.

 

Hundreds of million naira worth of COVID 19 palliatives and medical supplies were procured by the Foundation and distributed to all major Anglican, Catholic and Pentecostal churches in Anambra State and beyond.

 

That is not all, the Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation, SEOF, capped up the humanitarian mission with the staging of medical fairs in Oraifite in partnership with a team of medical doctors from the VOOM Foundation in USA.

 

The health fairs featured free medical consultations, free drugs, free clinical examinations, health talk and outdoor check-ups. It was a world class fair as over 3000 people suffering from different types of sicknesses received special attention in the two phases of the exercise held at the Foundation’s headquarters, Oraifite.

 

The Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation, SEOF, has also provided roads, embarked on erosion control, and provided water and electricity to the people of Oraifite and beyond.

 

Other areas given attention by the Foundation include development of agricultural capacity of local farmers, security for the rural dwellers, award of scholarships and education grants to indigent students, skill acquisition programs for artisans, among others.

 

The Foundation was also involved in the recent distribution of critical health Intervention drugs valuated at over 40million to Primary Health Centres and Referral Hospitals in some parts of Anambra State. The VOOM Foundation partnership and relationship with SEOF last year and in 2022 has helped to guarantee life-saving health Interventions for our people.
