Radio, Television Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria, RATTAWU Anambra state Council has held executive elections for the Culture and Anambra Broadcasting Service ABS Awka Chapters of the council.
Before the election, there was accreditation of delegates, dissolution of the current executives of the two chapters respectively, paving way for the incoming ones, and the Constitution of the Union was read by the Zonal Organizing Secretary South East zone, Comrade Chibuikem Edeh.
Staff reporter Njideka Okoye covered the elections and reports that the eight member executives for each chapter were elected through peaceful vote count and concession, thereafter they took oath of office and were sworn in by the Anambra state Chairman of the Council, Comrade Andy Onwughalu.
At the Culture chapter, the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Hon. Don Onyenji while welcoming the delegates and declaring the congress open, commended the leadership of Anambra Council of the Union for their unity of purpose and effective Service, urging them to maintain the tempo.
Hon. Onyenji who stated the determination of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to bring back all the values of Ndi Igbo, stressed the need for interventions and cross fertilization of ideas by the members of the Union, especially in promoting human capacity which Unionism gives as it exposes one to technicalities in managing issues everywhere and wished them a successful election.
In his remarks, an observer and the National Vice Chairman of RATTAWU, Comrade Emeka Kalu expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the elections which he described as peaceful and successful, reminding the new executive that leadership is all about sacrifice, even as he urged them to strive to protect the interest of their members, have a cordial working relationship and fulfill the mandate given to them.
The Chairman Anambra state Council of RATTAWU, Comrade Andy Onwughalu commended them for working as one Family and for the spirit of sportsmanship they exhibited during the election, urging them to extend their support to the new executives.
In their validatory speeches, the out going chairman of Culture chapter, Comrade Juliet Ochima and her ABS chapter counterpart, Comrade Maureen-Stone Enujioke thanked God for a peaceful working relationship they experienced and commended the members for their support to their leadership, urging them to extend such to the new executives while their successors, Comrade Nneka Uwaechia of Culture chapter and Comrade Ebere Ugonna of ABS Awka chapter thanked the members for finding them worthy to serve and promised to put in their best for the good of the Union.
At the Culture chapter, Comrade Nneka Uwaechia emerged chairman, Comrade Obiajulu Edochie was elected as vice chairman and Comrade Ugochukwu Anigbogu secretary while at the ABS Awka chapter, Comrade Ebere Ugonna was elected chairman, Comrade Chidinma Oranwa vice chairman and Comrade Amaka Obi secretary, among other members.
