Anambra State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Miss Chiamaka Nnake says the Soludo administration will always ensure that Anambra youths receive their share of any Federal Government’s largesse.

 

The Commissioner stated this at Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area, while inaugurating the first phase of a four-day training of the five hundred Anambra state youths under the Anambra COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, CARES programme.

Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that the Anambra COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus programme, under the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, programme is World Bank assisted and disbursed by State governments through the State Cash Transfer Office.

 

It is also geared towards making Nigerian youths self-reliant by empowering them with the sum of two hundred-thousand-naira start-up grant each, at the end of the training.

 

Five hundred Youths of Anambra extraction undergoing the training in various economic fields to help boost their knowledge of financial and business management were selected from each of the ten Pilot Local Government Areas of the livelihood programme which includes Aguata, Anambra West, Awka North and South, Idemili South, Ihiala, Nnewi North and South, Ogbaru, and Onitsha South.

 

Miss Nnake who appreciated the federal government for finding Anambra State youths worthy of the grant asked the beneficiaries to utilize the money on reception to enable the state benefit from other largesse of the federal government.

 

The Commissioner who is also the Chairman of State Steering Committee of the programme called for appropriate implementation of the livelihood programme and implored the Anambra State Cares, team to ensure that the startup grants were given to the right persons.

 

Earlier in a speech, the Head State Cash Transfer Unit and Anambra COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Project, Mr Raph Enukorah encouraged the participants to endeavour to improve their knowledge of financial and business management during training and as well make judicious use of the grant.

 

On their parts, some of the beneficiaries, Miss Ndidiamaka Ezenwafor, and Mr Aloysius Okafor expressed joy over the programme and appreciated the state and federal government, as well as the World Bank for choosing the intervention, while promising to utilize the opportunity.

 

Also present at the event were the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, Head Anambra State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Coordinating Unit, and Mrs Ogochukwu Orji.
