A Non-governmental Organization, Mmaigbo Empowerment Foundation has been officially, inaugurated in Awka.
Mmaigbo Empowerment Foundation, with primary goal to keep youths off the street through skill acquisition programmes, is open to all Igbo speaking communities cross Nigeria.
Mmaigbo Empowerment Foundation, which has different skills acqusition programmes and other extra curricular activities, also provide start-up packs for participants on graduation.
In his remark during the inauguration, the Director General, Mmaigbo Empowerment Foundation, Comrade Uzo Ekemezie, who described the empowerment as his brain child, said it is aimed at fashioning out ways of engaging the youths meaningfully for them to impact on the society positively.
Comrade Ekemezie while noting that they also aim to promote Igbo cultural norms, called on government at all levels to partner those that have interest in developing the society through youths empowerment.
While blaming the spate of insecurity bedeviling the Nigerian nation today on cumulative failure of leadership over the years, Comrade Ekemezie appealed to the federal government to invest more in education and save the future of youths.
Also speaking, the Director of Programmes of the Foundation, Mr. John Ndudu, who disclosed that the empowerment programme will last for eight days, noted that they kicked off with a- two- day mental-psycological training before the basic skills acquisition that is valuable to the society.
Mr. Ndudu noted that the grand finally will take place on June twenty-two with the exhibition of products from the intensive eight days basic practicals.
Earlier in their separate lectures titled “Effects of moral decadence on productivity” and “Importance of skills acqusition” a resource person from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Dr. Geoffrey Nganwuchu and Mr. Dennis Ekemezie respectively, advised youths to always engage themselves positively, shun indent dressing, bad gangs, and acts that are capable of marring their future.
Some of the participants, including Miss Chidimma Anieheobi from Abuja and Mr. Onyeka Nwabueze from Ogbaru Council Area, appealed to those that drag youths integrity to the mud to desist and utilize opportunities like this to learn a skill and be useful to themselves, their families and society at large.
