Finding the right one to spend life with is something many people have been so unlucky with, while others have continued to search.
But the case was different for two physically challenged couple who walked down the aisle and professed love for each other at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Nkwelle Awka.
The holy matrimony of Barrister Thankgod Ohaeri, a native of Ohokobe Ndume Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, and his hearttrob, Amarachi Nwokedi, now Mrs Ohaeri, of Umunnebuogbu Okohia Ihiala, Ihiala Local Government Area was a unique ceremony that would be evergreen in the minds of family members, relations, friends and guests who attended the event.
The groom is a legal practitioner, though physically challenged, while the bride is visually impaired, and works with Anambra State Ministry of Education.
The wedding attracted over fifteen Catholic priests from various Dioceses and many dignitaries from different parts of the country, including government functionaries, who came to felicitate with both families.
Speaking in a homily, Very Reverend Father Everistus Ibenegbu, reminded Christians that marriage is a sacred union of no return, which should be built on trust and love.
Felicitating with the couple on behalf of the Attorney General of Anambra State, the State Solicitor General, Ngozi Iwuno, described the marriage as unique, noting that Anambra is favourably disposed to people with physical challenges, while the Chairman on the occasion, Sir Emma Ihenatuoha, maintained that people should not be discouraged by their physical challenges, as there is ability in every disability, describing the marriage as an ‘act of God’.
The marriage sponsors, Mr and Mrs Kelvin Nwokedi, while praying God to give the couple mutual understanding and love in their marital journey, pointed out that the bride outshines her mates, not minding her disability.
Also speaking, the bride’s parents, Comrade and Mrs Pius Nwokedi, said they never knew that there would be a time they would witness their daughter’s wedding because of her physical challenge, while the groom’s mother, Mrs Comfort Ohaeri, said the marriage was simply the will of God.
The Nigerian Association of the Blind, Anambra State chapter, led by Comrade Ernest Okanmelu, who was represented by the Publicity Secretary of the association, Mr. Chudi Chukwuebuka, urged every physically challenged individual not to be deterred in life, because according to him, being disabled does not mean one cannot achieve his or her goals in life.
Speaking to the ABS, the couple, Barrister and Mrs Thankgod Ohaeri, who shared their love journey with each other, described the day as the best in their lives.
