Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Mrs Ify Obinabo has reiterated the state governments commitment to boosting access to quality education for all.
This she said during the 2022 children’s day celebration held at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.
this year’s children’s day celebration had in attendance the wife of the governor, Dr Nonye Soludo and the wife of the Deputy Governor Mrs Oluchi Ibezim, members of the State Executive Council, State House of Assembly members led by the Speaker Right Honourable Uchenna Okafor, children from over one hundred schools in the state,
and their teachers among other notable individuals.
In her welcome address, Mrs Obinabo, said that the ministry through the help of the state government will create safer, more friendly, and inclusive environment for all including those with special needs.
The Women Affairs Commissioner explained that Strengthening support systems for the protection of Nigeria child is not the sole responsibility of government but includes the synergy of parents and guardians in creating the needed platform for children to blossom.
The Speaker of the Eighth Assembly of the Children’s Parliament, Right Honourable Israel Udekwe who presented the Parliament’s resolution urged the government to dispatch at least one security agent in every school for better security in schools.
Right Honourable Udekwe further called on them to monitor all relaxation spots such as hotels to check and rescue children used for prostitution.
Igwebuike Grammar school won the overall best and the first position at the secondary school category, while Grand Harmane took the overall best at the primary school category.
This year’s Children’s Day theme is “Strengthening supportive systems for the protection of Nigeria child: a wake-up call”.
The Women and Social Welfare Commissioner later visited the Community Children’s Home Awka where she celebrated with the less privileged and motherless kids
