Bishop Peter Okpaleke of Ekwulobia Catholic Diocese has been named a Cardinal by Pope Francis.

Pope Francis, who made it public yesterday after recitation of Regina Caeli, said he would make Bishop Okpaleke a Cardinal at a consistory scheduled for twenty-seven August, 2022.

Born on the first day of March 1963 in Amaesi community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, Bishop Okpalaeke has been the Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese since twenty-ninth April 2020.

He was earlier appointed Bishop of Ahiara Diocese in 2012 and consecrated in 2013, but after the local clergy and laity insisted on an Mbaise Bishop, he was installed as the Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese.
