There is a saying that when there is life; there is hope

But for Mr. Chukwuebuka Okoye, this saying might not have so much meaning after he became physically challenged at old age, making it difficult for him to fend for himself.

Mr. Okoye, a thirty-three years old bachelor from Urunnebo village, Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area, was, until four years ago, a successful businessman who dealt in generator sets in Bayelsa State before his predicament started.

He narrated that he was trying to test a generator set for a customer when it exploded as a result of faulty carburetor, resulting in multiple degrees of burns on his body.

He said he has visited and lived in different Orthopedic hospitals in Nigeria, spending over four million naira on bills and drugs without meaningful result.

Mr. Okoye said the struggle to pay hospital bills and take care of other family and personal needs has drained his and his widow mother’s pockets.

He explained that aside eating just once daily, he has continued to have sleepless nights as a result of pains and agony he goes through.

Acknowledging that donations from some well-meaning individuals over the years have enabled him to continue to see the light of the day, Mr. Okoye appealed to the State government, nongovernmental organizations and individuals to assist him go back to the hospital for a permanent solution, which he said will cost about two point three million naira more.

Amidst tears, the victim revealed that he lives as a tenant in his community, with his landlord already threatening to throw him out of house because of the smell from his injury and inability to pay his rent for over three years.

He prayed for good health and end to pains in his life.
