The 2022 Conference of Men’s Christian Followship, Inland Town Archdeaconry, Onitsha, has ended with a call on men to put more efforts in pleasing God in all their life endeavours.
The Anglican Bishop on the Niger, Right Reverend Dr Owen Nwokolo, made the call while addressing delegates at the conference held at St Stephen’s Anglican Church Inland Town Onitsha, which commenced with a special Holy communion service.
Bishop Nwokolo, who challenged the men to do that which pleases God at all times and wherever they may find themselves, harped on the need for members of the Archdeaconry and Niger Anglican Diocese to have a mission, vision and direction, noting that the Church is expected to dominate her environment for Christ.
Earlier in his sermon during the special service, the Vicar of St Stephen’s Anglican Church Inland Town, Onitsha, Venerable Izuchukwu Obiekwe, who spoke on the theme of the synod, “Be the doers of the word and not hearers only”, challenged the men to endeavour to be doers of God’s words and not hearers only, regretting that most men are no longer authoritative in their words because they do not practice what they teach.
Making biblical reference to the teachings of Jesus Christ, which according to him was authoritative, Venerable Obiekwe pointed out that christianity should be a way of life and not a religion of ritual.
In his Presidential address, the Archdeacon, Inland Town Archdeaconry and Vicar of Immanuel Anglican Church Onitsha, Venerable Joseph Nweke, enumerated various achievements recorded at the Archdeaconry, and called on the men to work together as a family in order to move the Archdeaconry forward.
He decried security and economic challenges facing the country, and called for fervent prayers for the nation.
The Chaplain, Inland Town Archdeaconry Men’s Christian Fellowship, Reverend Canon Kingsley Adigwe, who took the conference delegates on bible study with the topic “Causes of disunity in some Christian homes and marriages”, challenged the men to shun any act capable of bringing disunity in their homes; such as having a special love for one of their children, living polygamous life, not having love for their wives, among others.
In an interview with the ABS, the 2022 Conference Planning Committee Chairman and Vicar of Anglican Church of Pentecost, Osuma, Reverend Johnson Iwuaneze, expressed gratitude to God for a successful outing, saying that the conference provided the men the opportunity to know that they also have enormous role to play in child upbringing, which he said they were shying away from in their various homes and pushing it to mothers alone.
Staff reporter, Emengini Osadebe reports that the conference featured talk on “parenting role of fathers in a polarised society’’ by Venerable Obiekwe, launching as well as praise and prayer sessions.
