The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor has assured members of the upgraded teachers in Anambra State that the House is committed to addressing their plight.
The Speaker gave the assurance when the teachers staged a peaceful protest at Anambra State House of Assembly over the termination of their appointments by the state government.
addressing the protesters, Right Honorable Okafor commended them for channeling their complaint to the House peacefully, assuring them that the House will present their complaint to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
He described Governor Soludo as a visionary leader with listening ears who is working hard to build a better state with opportunities for all.
In his speech, the spokesman of the teachers whose appointments were terminated, Mr. Uche Eze, explained that after their names were shortlisted by the Ministry of Education as candidates who passed teachers recruitment exercise on 3rd November 2021, they received letters of appointment to start work as permanent staff.
He disclosed that since then, they have worked for seven months waiting to be paid, only to be told by their principals and headmistresses in May, to reapply for their conversion to permanent teachers.
The protesters displayed placards with various inscriptions like, “Give us back our job, “We met the criteria please reinstate us”, among others.
Earlier at plenary, the House consoled the family of late Honourable Okechukwu Okoye, the people of Aguata Two Constituency and Isuofia community on his death.
The House urged Governor Soludo and security Agencies to fish out the killers of late Honouarble Okoye and punish them accordingly.
