Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo has said that Anambra women must get involved in discussing issues affecting them.
Mrs. Soludo stated this while interacting with the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, at the commissioner’s office in Awka.
The governor’s wife noted that the absence of women on the table, where issues affecting them are discussed, will only give the conversation a little or no fruitful return.
She said that though the consciousness in tackling the plethora of social problems affecting women and children in Anambra State must be increased, women must show sincere interest in the cause by not only reporting how issues affect them, but showing support to government policies and programmes aimed at addressing the issues.
The governor’s wife commended Mrs. Obinabo for starting off strong with notable impression on child rights, women protection and other social services, and restated her belief in the Commissioner’s resourcefulness from the start.
Mrs. Soludo also observed that more could be done in the areas of hygiene, overall healthy living and child advocacy, which she said are her core areas of passion, and promised to give every necessary support to her husband, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, in his policies and programmes that affect women and children.
Welcoming the governor’s wife, Mrs. Obinabo, said her energetic investment in hygiene, especially among women and girls, as well as achievements in child advocacy, are in line with the key vision of the ministry, and thanked Governor Soludo for his supports to the ministry.
Correspondent Daniel Ezigwe reports that Mrs. Soludo was accompanied on the visit by the wife of the deputy governor, Oluchi Ibezim.
