Over four thousand people have received free medical treatment on various illnesses during a five days medical mission sponsored by the member representing Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency, Honourable Lynda Ikpeazu.
Christ the King Parish, Onitsha, served as the venue for outpatients while the theatre of General Hospital, Onitsha was used for surgeries.
Free lab tests, ultrasound scans, reading glasses and drugs were given to the patients by a team of doctors employed for the services.
Addressing journalists after supervising the progress of the exercise, Honourable Ikpeazu said that the aim of the programme was to impact on the lives of the people considering the exorbitant bills paid to access treatment in hospitals especially surgery which is not less than five hundred thousand naira.
The federal lawmaker, who expressed happiness that the medical treatment went directly to the targeted beneficiaries, recalled the success of her last year’s free Medicare where a malformed girl and two persons suffering from blindness were corrected through surgeries, hence her resolve to organize more of the free medical mission.
She encouraged her constituents, who have medical issues but cannot afford the treatment to avail themselves of the opportunity.
A former Anambra State House of Assembly Member, Honnourable Chinedu Muokwuo, affirmed that Honourable Ikpeazu through her actions, has demonstrated true representation, assuring her of their prayers and support.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mrs. Christiana Diashi, Nneka Chukwura and Mr. Richard Aguobe thanked the lawmaker for having the interest of the people at heart, even as they prayed for God’s blessing upon her.
