In its renewed efforts to establishing sanity in the building sector, Anambra state government task force has demolished a two-storey building at Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area.
The weak-looking building which hitherto sat on the Sakamori drainage, has translated to a sort of nightmare facing the residents around the area.
similarly, some structures at the Okpoko Abbatoir market are among the illegal structures brought down by the task force.
Speaking in an interview, a member of the Taskforce, Barrister Chike Maduekwe explained that government is not out to witch hunt anybody, pointing out that the governor promised to build a livable state which cannot be a reality if people block the drainages, stating that with continuous rain, most of the places are flooded creating hardship and suffering for residents.
Barrister Maduekwe noted that government exists to secure the welfare and security for its citizens, saying that for posterity’s sake, Ndi Anambra should listen to the voice of reason as government is embarking on the exercise for benefit of the unborn children.
He regretted that so much impunity and recklessness had happened in the past, expressing Governor Soludo’s commitment to open up the Sakamori- Nwangene drainage.
While recalling that government had lost alot of revenue to neighbouring cities as a result of the unplanned nature of the city, Barrister Maduekwe stated that government is working hard to ensure that the right thing is done.
Some of the residents who spoke to newsmen described government’s intervention as timely.
According to them they want to embrace development and are ready to enjoy government dividends with other Ndi Anambra.
