As part of measures to stem the tide of insecurity in the state, the Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Trade and Commerce, has commenced enumeration of traders in markets across the state.

 

The state Commissioner for  Commerce and Industry, Mr Obinna Ngonadi, disclosed this during an assessment tour of the Building Materials International Market, Ogidi.

The Commissioner, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Emenike Ezinando, Director and Chief Commercial Officer in the ministry, Mrs Jossy Eboh-Nwosu, the Public Relations Officer, Mrs Rita Okonkwo, among others, said the essence of the enumeration is to capture and have the electronic data of all the traders in the market for easy monitoring of their activities for security reasons.

 

While commending neatness and organization of the market, Mr Ngonadi said that the enumeration will equally help boost the internal revenue generation of the state government.

He expressed satisfaction with the compliance of traders to the success of the exercise and took note of network challenges facing the enumerators.

 

In his remarks, the President-General of the market, Mr Jude Nwankwo, attributed the compliance of the traders to the exercise to unity, love and peace existing in the market, adding that it is their way of encouraging and supporting the state government in its fight against insecurity.

 

Also speaking, the Chairman of Zones Two and Three of the market, Mr Adindu Onyechi, called for government’s intervention in issues the traders are having with land owners.
