A special valedictory session has been held for Late Honourable Okechukwu Okoye in Anambra State House of Assembly.

 

The late Okoye who was gruesomely murdered by his kidnappers represented Aguata Two Constituency from 2019 to 2022, and died at the age of forty-four years.

House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that it was a solemn moment for members of Anambra State House of Assembly, relations and friends of the late lawmaker who were adorned in black attire as they paid their last respect to him accompanied by a special rendition rendered by Aguata Two Constituency choir.

 

In his tribute, the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor described the deceased as an eloquent, articulated legislator whose sense of humor and humane disposition as well as mastery of the rules of the House distinguished him among his colleagues.

The Speaker regretted that Anambra state Government, House of Assembly, Isuofia community and the good people of Aguata Two Constituency have lost a personality of many positive attributes in late Honourable Okoye and enjoined his family to take solace in the fact that his short life was full of service to God and humanity.

 

On his part, the member representing Aguata One Constituency, Dr. Carter Umeoduagu thanked God for the exemplary life of late Honourable Okoye whom he described as a good man and architect of modern democracy in Aguata Two Constituency.

In their tributes, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Dr. Paschal Agbodike and the Majority Leader, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor also eulogized the sterling qualities of the deceased, even as other members of the House also took turn to pay tribute to the late Okoye.

 

While commiserating with the House and the family of the deceased, the Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu called on members of the House and leaders at all levels to use the death of Honourable Okoye to make amends where necessary.

In a vote of thanks, a brother of the deceased, Brother David Okoye urged Anambra State Government and law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to arrest the killers of his brother and punish them accordingly in the interest of Justice.
