The remains of the late Immediate Past President-General of Awka, Development Union Nigeria, ADUN, Late Chief Anthony Anene Okechukwu have been laid to rest in Awka.

 

The requiem mass for the deceased community leader which took place at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka was presided over by the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor with the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Reverend Jonas-Benson Okoye and numerous other priests in attendance.

In his homily at the burial mass, Most Reverend Okoye noted that death is inevitable for all mortals but also a transition to another level of spiritual life, affirming that Chief Okechukwu anEngineer, was a good man who used his blessings for the growth of mankind.

 

A relative of the deceased Chief Dan Okechukwu said the late Chief Anthony Okechukwu was a strong-willed man, intelligent and hardworking who always get things done and his personality will be missed in the family.

In their remarks after the requiem mass, a former Presidential Adviser, Senator Ben Ndi Obi and a former Senator Representing Anambra Central, at the National Assembly Chief Victor Umeh, described the death of Chief Okechukwu as unfortunate, saying he was a man of honesty, boldness and forthrightness among other sterling qualities which he used to serve his community and humanity,noting that his sudden demise is a huge shock.

 

The Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Ezeokafor also revealed that the late Chief Okechukwu who was a member of the Knight of Saint John International was keen to adding his quota to the growth of the Church and held key posts in the Diocese thereby contributing greatly to the building of a hostel accommodation at Peter University, Achina which he said will now be named after him.

The Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Anglican Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Chief Okechukwu, noting that he always identified with the church using his blessings to serve God and humanity

 

Another relative of the deceased, Mrs. Uche Umeche lamented that the death of Chief Anthony Okechukwu was painful but they take solace in the good life he lived.

The burial ceremony was well attended by dignitaries and prominent Awka indigenes including, Professor Austin Nnoyelu of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, former Federal House Of Representatives Member For Awka North and South, Chief Emeka Nwogbo, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Legislative Matters, Chief Anayo Nnebe, Managing Director of MP infrastructure, Chief Clem Nwogbo, Managing Director of Juhel Nigeria limited, Dr. Ifeanyi Okoye , former Director-General of Standards Organization of Nigeria, SON, Dr. Ikem Odumodu amongst others

 

The Late Chief Anthony Okechukwu died at the age of sixty-eight.
