The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor has charged Christians not to allow the efforts of the early missionaries which brought Christianity to Igbo land in 1857 be in vain.

Speaking at the Cathedral church of saint John Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area on the one hundred and sixty-five years of the coming of the Christianity to Igboland, Bishop Ezeofor Commended the early missionaries for the abolition of all harmful traditional practices especially the killing of twins and slave trade.

Right Reverend Ezeofor expressed gratitude to the missionaries for bringing Western education, Health Care delivery and other incentives which he noted have continued to aid even development across all sectors.

The Aguata Diocesan Bishop who is also the National Chairman of the Evangelical fellowship in the Anglican Communion, EFAC, Nigeria, used the opportunity to canvass for the abolition of all other harmful traditional practices that negate development and peaceful coexistence especially those being meted to widows.

Bishop Ezeofor advised those occupying leadership positions to emulate the early missionaries who exhibited high Sense of sacrifices in bringing evangelism to Igboland by being selfless in their service to God and humanity

He urged Christian faithful to use this period to pray for peaceful coexistence in the South East and Nigeria in general.
