The Archbishop, Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim has expressed worry over the high-rate of talents decay in Nigeria.

 

The Anglican prelate made this known in a sermon at the 2022 graduation and foundation stone laying ceremony of Mary Sumner Vocational Institute, Awka, which is also part of activities to celebrate his sixtieth birthday.

Performing the ceremony which commenced with a Eucharistic service, Archbishop Ibezim said in order to build a progressive society where young girls would be meaningfully engaged for productivity, the diocese through the Women’s Ministry developed and built the institute to enable young girls acquire vocational skills.

 

The Prelate who said the purpose of the institute is to proclaim Christ, charged the over seventy-one graduands to be good ambassadors of the institute as ladders of success have been created for them to climb on.

Archbishop Ibezim announced the affiliation of the institute to Renaissance Modern Polytechnic, Mbaukwu, for enhanced practical studies and learning as students will be trained to be computer literate.

 

On her part, the President Mothers’ Union, Women’s Guild and Girls’ Guild Province of the Niger, Mrs Chioma Ibezim, disclosed that over four hundred girls are currently studying at the institute where many skills like catering, beauty therapy and decoration are learnt.

She implored the graduands to be progressive in life with all knowledge they garnered during their studies.

 

The Director of the institute, Mrs Uche Emekwesia revealed that the Institute which was established over thirty-two years ago has produced professional teachers, entrepreneurs, caterers and hoteliers.

The event attracted over five Archbishops and Bishops from various dioceses.
