Anambra Youths, gathered in their numbers at Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka, to join their counterparts to commemorate this year’s International Youth Day.

 

This year’s celebration was unique as different youth organizations in Anambra, including the Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Wing and National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra state chapter, ASATU Youth Wing, Church youth organizations, uniformed organizations, National Youth Service Corps and Corps members , among others gathered for the celebration.

The celebration reports that this year’s celebration has its theme as “International Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages”.

 

In his speech , the Anambra state Commissioner for Youth Development Mr Patrick Aghamba noted that the celebration provides the opportunity to raise awareness of arrays of issues that face youths across the globe and to celebrate their achievements.

Commissioner Aghamba stated that the target of the present administration is to create at least one hundred and thirty thousand private jobs per annum and one thousand youth millionaires every year, noting that the ministry has strategically positioned itself to drive the policies and agenda of the present government.

 

The Youth Commissioner said that in line with state government’s plans of pursuing the vision of a livable and prosperous Anambra state through community-based approach to youth development, the ministry has created awareness on its line of action for youth development by bringing all stakeholders in the communities together to be on the same page and called on youths to join hands in making the transformation agenda of Professor Chukwuma Soludo to work for the common good of the society.

In a keynote lecture, the former Commissioner for Basic Education Professor Kate Omenugha who made her teaching an interactive forum where the youths contributed by listing challenges they envisage, advised youths to be hard working, believe in themselves that they are capable, learn to be patient, listen and take good advice as well as know the kind of friends they keep.

 

Professor Omenugha urged youths to have a positive mind set, have a defined vision and work on it, learn to manage their finances, avoid greed and believe in God.

Others who spoke at the event include Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria Anambra state Chapter, Mr Emeka Obi-Chukwudi, leader Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth, Comrade Onyedika Eweh, Acting President ASATU Youth Wing, Comrade Nkwado Onwualu, State Coordinator NYSC Anambra State , Mrs Blessing Iruma among others while Anambra Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, the traditional ruler of Onitsha, Obi Alfred Achebe among others were also present at the International Youth Day celebration.
