Anambra State government says it is determined to sanitize the transport sector to enhance its internal revenue generation.

The State commissioner for Transport Mrs. Patricia Igwebike who disclosed this while briefing news men on the ongoing reforms in the motor park management explained that the government would not want a repeat of history, where private individuals invaded motor parks for their selfish interests and money meant to develop the State diverted to private pockets.

While reacting to an erroneous publication in one of the national dailies, Mrs. Igwebike said that what government is doing is to take a holistic approach to the management of the park with a view to building an effective and efficient management system devoid of corruption and embezzlement of public funds

According to the Commissioner, government is painstakingly addressing the issue of management of motor parks whereby the government takes full control of the park through the motor park administrators.

She categorically stated that the Anambra State government has not appointed any administrator in any motor park in the state, but has only asked interested persons who wish to apply as park administrators to do so in line with government directives.

Mrs. Igwebike restated that the government directives on the ban on touts in the State motor parks is still in full force, and anybody caught flouting governments directives would be made to face the full weight of the law.
