Mixed reactions welcome Anambra State thirty-first anniversary of creation. While some stakeholders believe that the State has every reason to celebrate after three decades of creation, others said the journey has been thorny and stormy.
Paul Ezeoke reports that in his reaction, the Vice President of Ọhaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene noted that while the state has recorded certain levels of development, it is still yet to reach the promise land.
According to Chief Okeke-Ogene even as the military intervention disrupted the vision and programmes of Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife’s administration, successive civilian administrations were hampered by political instability and other distractions from achieving their goals but noted that former Governors Chris Chinwoke Mbadinuju, Chris Ngige, Peter Obi and Willie Obiano made visible contributions in some key sectors including road, education, health and some other legacy projects like the state airport at Umueri.
He expressed confidence that the present administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo is laying a strong foundation for integrated and sustainable development of the state.
Also speaking, the National Patron and member Board of Trustees, Anambra Demand for Soludo, Chief Henry Igboeli commended the contributions of various previous administrations over the years towards the development of Anambra state, noting that the emergence of Governor Soludo has brought a new dawn and turning point that would further accelerate over all development through his holistic and comprehensive approach to governance and new initiatives to raise standards of living.
Chief Igboeli who is also the State Chairman of Miners Association of Nigeria noted that creation of the Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ministry by the Governor would enable the state effectively harness the abundant potential in the sub-sector and commended the Commissioner Mr. Tony Ifeanya for steps taken so far to reposition the Ministry.
Chief Igboeli pointed out that the mining industry would enable the state to create thousands of employment opportunities in the formal and informal sectors to provide permanent solutions to the challenges of youth unemployment as well as help boost the state’s economy.
