A service of songs was held in honour of the late General Alexander Madiebo, who died at the age of ninety.

The ceremony, which took place in his compound at Umuokpu Village, Awka, saw family members, Umuokpu Anglican Community, poets, writers, friends and well-wishers, who described him as a war time fighter and peace time writer.

Before the sermon, an octogenarian, Mrs. Juliana Okoli, from Umuokpu Village Awka, in her brief tribute, recounted how the timely intervention of the late General Madiebo delivered her and her family from dying during the Nigeria/Biafra war.

Also in his tribute, Commodore Akanisi, described the late General Madiebo as a commander of rare courage, freedom fighter, war strategist of global standard, and a sharp recorder of Nigerian civil war and prayed for the repose of his soul.

In his sermon, the officiating priest and Vicar, Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Umuokpu Awka, Venerable Christian Chinweuko, spoke on two categories of Christians which are the saints’ militants and saints triumphant.

He mentioned strategies through which the warfare with the devil can be won by the saint militant to include faith in God, prayerfulness and urged Christians not to relent in prayers.

In a vote of thanks, a relative of the deceased, Mr. Roland Madiebo, appreciated all that identified with them in their moment of mourning and celebration of the life and time of their loved one.

Queen Anigbogu reports that special prayers and offerings climaxed the ceremony.
