The Rotary Club of Awka Central, has given the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu a Vocational Service Award alongside other philanthropists for their selfless services and contributions to the society.
The awards were given in Awka, during the installation of Rotarian Maudlyn Ohuoha, as the ninth and second female president of the club.
Among those, who received Community and Humanitarian Service Awards were, the former Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor, former Permanent Secretary in Anambra State Civil Service, Barrister Emeka Ohuoha, a business mogul, Mr. Matthew Nnanyelugo, and an industrialist, Chief Edmund Nwankwo.
Receiving the award, Sir Chido, who described it as a combination of the past and present achievements, dedicated it to staff of the ABS and re-echoed his mandate of running a responsible, professional and profitable media organization.
Also speaking, Engineer Ifejiofor thanked Rotary for its humanitarian activities in the society and dedicated his award to former governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano, while Mr. Nnanyelugo called for the promotion of Igbo Apprenticeship Scheme in Igboland which according to him, will assist the youths in becoming successful in life, thereby nipping in the bud, youth restiveness.
Earlier in her inaugural speech, Rotarian Ohuoha promised to consolidate on the past achievements of the club and called for support from members to actualize the rotary vision statement.
She listed disease prevention and treatment, basic education and literacy, community economic development, water, sanitation and hygiene, maternal and child care, as well as peace building and conflict prevention as her seven key projects in 2022/2023 Rotary Year.
In his valedictory speech, the immediate past president, Rotarian Micheal Iruka enjoined members to extend the same hands of fellowship to the new president, while the chairman on the occasion and the immediate past Head of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh affirmed that if the entire country would adopt the four-way test and principles of Rotary, the society would be positively transformed.
