Training For Water Users Association, Beneficiaries On Relevance Of Geophysical Examination In Drilling, Others Ends In Awka

A one-day training for Water Users Association/Beneficiaries on the relevance of geophysical examination in drilling and management of borehole and water system/schemes has ended with call on participants to always go for the best irrespective of all odds.

The training, organized by the FGN IFAD VCDP in collaboration with the state ministry of Agriculture, took place at the Agricultural Development Programm office, ADP, in Awka.

The participants, who were fifty-five in number, were drawn from water users association, owners of the eleven water boreholes drilled by the FGN IFAD VCDP at Ogbaru, Orumba South and Ihiala Council Areas including their Extension Agents and Laison Officers.

In his opening remark, the state Programme Coordinator, FGN IFAD VCDP, Mr. Nnamdi Agwuncha noted that theVCDP is beneficiary driven to avoid white elephant projects.

While warning that the training was not a jamboree, Mr. Agwuncha, represented by the state Irrigation Engineer, FGN IFAD VCDP, Mr. Martins Ugochukwu, an engineer, said that they converged to identify water beneficiaries’ problems in order to develop better strategy in addressing them.

Also speaking, the Programm Manager of ADP, Ministry of Agriculture Awka, Mr. Jude Nwankwor, stressed the need for maximum security and sustainability of both government and intervention projects executed for beneficiaries across the state.

Speaking on the relevance of geophysical examination in drilling and management of water systems, a resource person from the Department of Geology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Elizabeth Okoyeh, identified electrical resistivity as the most efficient grand water exploration and search using geophysical method.

Other resource persons, including Mr. Joseph Onugha and Mr. Cletus Nwafor, emphasized that it is the responsibility of water users associations to ensure that the facilities are efficiently and effectively managed for sustainability.

On the part of the PARTICIPANTS, including Mrs. Anastasia Ezeolisa from Zion Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Ogbaru, AND Mr. Udoka Obi from Otu-oma Cooperative Society, Ihiala while expressing gratitude for the training, described it as well designed with sustainability measures and called for more of it from time to time.
