The Modern Traditional Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter trooped out en- mass on a road walk at Amawbia to mark the International Day for African Traditional Medicine. Members of the Association held herbs depicting their profession, walked around roads in Amawbia and environs sensitising people on the importance of the day and their activities.
Paul Ezeoke reports that African Traditional Medicine Day honours and promotes the important roles medicinal plants and herbs play in improving health and well-being of the people.
The National Task Force Chairman of the Association Mr John Ibeka said the day is important in recognising the contributions of traditional medicine in tackling health challenges.
Mr Ibeka explained that members of the Association were properly screened with necessary orientation to work within the laws and regulations guiding their practice as directed by the state Ministry of Health to assist Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration achieve its vision on health.
He said the Association is also supporting the state government’s efforts to fish out those who hide under the pretence of traditional medicine to perpetrate evil and criminal activities to face prosecution and justice.
In his remarks, the National Vice President of the Association Chief Hyacinth Ezeugo noted that many countries of the world including India and China have integrated traditional medicine into their health system to eliminate emerging health challenges.
Also speaking, the state Chairman of the Association, Chief Christian Nweke said they will remain committed in supporting Governor Soludo to transform the state health sector.
In their separate speeches, the National Financial Secretary of the Association Prince Joseph Otiugo and National Woman Leader, Mrs Felicia Okonkwo called for Unity of purpose for them to achieve their goals.
