Anambra Post Primary School Service Commission, PPSSC, Awka, has organized a five-day retreat for Principals of secondary schools in the state.
The event, which focused on ‘Principals leadership roles and students’ education achievement’, was held at Madonna Renewal Center, Nkpor, in Idemili North Local Government Area.
In her opening remark, the state Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, commended the Principals for holding forte amidst challenges and difficulties, saying that teaching profession, being a noble and dignified service, should be rendered with pride and diligence, especially now that e-learning has become the best international form of teaching.
In a welcome address, the Executive Secretary, Post Primary School Service Commission, PPSSC, Mrs Ndidi Oranusi, said the annual retreat is compulsory for all school Principals in the state, being a platform to addresses various problems discovered during the commission’s monitoring and supervision exercise, particularly in the last one year after previous retreat.
She emphasized that after the retreat, each Principal will have no reason to fail in ensuring that teachers and students in all public and mission secondary schools in the state effectively manage situations, tasks, a team or entire organization.
In his remark, the Anambra State House of Assembly Chairman, Committee on Basic Education, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu, said it is a great privilege to have a Governor who has great passion for teachers, and Education Commissioner who is a teacher per excellence, urging the Principals to take their roles in the education sector serious.
The five-day retreat had sub themes which includes, public service rules, staff motivation and control; alternative source of legitimate income generation in schools; WASSCE, NECO, SSCE, NABTEB results analysis in Anambra State schools for 2020/2021 session and revenue collection, remittance/principal and Busar relationship in PPSSC.
