The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has released the final list of Presidential and National Assembly candidates for the 2023 General Elections with one woman, making the list.

 

 

 

Out of the thirty-six presidential candidates and their vice, only the forty-four year old Ojei, Princess Chichi, of APM is a female.

 

 

 

A statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Festus Okoye, a Barrister, noted that a total of four thousand, two hundred and twenty-three candidates are contesting for four hundred and sixty-nine legislative positions.

 

 

 

In terms of gender distribution, as contained in the statement, three thousand, eight hundred and seventy-five candidates are male, whereas three hundred and eighty-one females comprising one for presidential, ninety-two for senate, and two hundred and eighty-eight for House of Representatives are contesting.

 

 

 

The statement added that eleven Persons with Disabilities are also in the race.

 

 

 

The commission however appealed to all political parties to channel any observation on the list of candidates to it adding that such complaints must be signed by the national chairman and secretary of the political party and supported with an affidavit as provided in section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2022.
