Anambra State Government has assured to partner the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in making its programs and policies known by the residents.

 

The state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony Nwabunwanne gave the assurance when members of the state NUJ Culture and Tradition Committee led by the state chairman of the union, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Government House, Awka.

 

Mr. Nwabunwanne, who described journalists as the mouthpiece of the masses especially the downtrodden, said that the Professor Chukwuma Soludo led administration will not take them for granted as their contributions to societal development and good governance cannot be overemphasized.

 

Commissioner Nwabunwanne disclosed that Professor Soludo Government entertains objective criticism, pointing out that through such, the government will discover where it is not doing well and make amends for the actualization of the dreamed livable and prosperous state.

 

Speaking earlier, Dr Odogwu, who expressed the readiness of the union to partner the state government, commended the choice of Governor Soludo in appointing Mr. Nwabunwanne as a Commissioner, who according to him, has proven his mettle as a good leader and solicited their support in the numerous activities of the union.

 

In their separate speeches, the chairman, NUJ Culture and Tradition Committee, Comrade Nneka Anoliefo and a member of the Committee, Comrade Kasie Abone acquainted the Commissioner on the upcoming 2022 culture and traditional fiesta of the union aimed at promoting Igbo Culture and Tradition, calling for his support.

 

In a vote of thanks, the Assistant Secretary of the union, Comrade Okechukwu Onuegbu commended the Commissioner for being media friendly, and assured the unflinching support of journalists in the state.
