Anambra State Government has sealed some establishments operating in Awka and Onitsha, over non compliance with tax payment.
No fewer than twelve hotels, banks and companies were sealed by the Anambra State Internal Generated Revenue Services, AIRS, following a court order.
among the facilities sealed were, Awka Microfinance Bank, AC Peterson Electronics Showroom, Quintana Suites, ANIDS Transport Company, Obalende and Kasorina Hotels all in Awka, while AIICO Insurance American International, and PZ Cussons Nigerian PLC all in Onitsha were also sealed.
It was gathered that levies were mainly those of business premises, sanitation and sundry government taxes.
According to the Head of Department, Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement of the AIRS, Mrs. Eberechukwu Ezekigbo, the enforcement followed refusal or failure of the companies to appear in court, after being served with court summons, before the seal off order.
She said the exercise was necessary in order to boost the state’s revenue, and ensure that every dime owned to the state government is paid.
On his part, the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service’s Desk Officer in charge of Anambra State Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA, Mr. James-Morgan Ezeodili, asked Ndi Anambra to be tax compliant as Governor Chukwuma Soludo is ever ready to foster development.
