The President General of Umueri General Assembly, Chief Johnny Metchie has been conferred with the Chieftaincy title, of Ezi Umueri by Igwe Benneth Emeka and the people of Umueri.
During the conferment which took place during this year’s Iwa Ji Umueri at the Igwe’s palace, Udabo Umueri, the wife of the PG, Linda, also bagged the title of Obidiya.
Chief Metchie was accompanied to the celebration by his wife Linda, family members, business Associates, friends and well-wishers.
Igwe Emeka while performing the function, noted that the President General, Chief Metchie merited the award considering what he has done for the community and beyond and is still doing, noting that the President General, Chief Metchie devoted his time and resources to service of humanity in various ways , urging him not to relent.
Speaking after receiving the Ezi Umueri Chieftaincy title, Chief Metchie said he felt honoured and grateful for receiving the chieftaincy title from Igwe Emeka and the Umueri Royal Cabinet, noting that Ezi Umueri title was first given to his late father, Barrister John Metchie and Igwe Emeka dimmed it fit to give back the title to him.
Chief Metchie stated that he has done many things for the community and beyond within the last hundred days he became the President General of Umueri to merit the chieftaincy title as he has been able to empower many youths, installed Sola street light in some streets, installed CCTV cameras in the markets, churches, streets and other strategic areas to assist in the security of Ndi Umueri, provided vehicles to all the quarters in Umueri, updated and trained the security outfit of the community and provided them with uniform, boots, raincoat, and CCTV walking talkies for better and easy communication.
Chief Metchie thanked the Anambra state Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo represented by the state Commissioner for Transport, Honourable Patricia Igwebuike for attending the event, Igwe Emeka for the chieftaincy titles on him and his wife Linda, promising a cordial working relationship with him to transform and make Umueri the first twenty fourth century Community in Anambra.
Chief Metchie described the chieftaincy title as a reward for good work and also a challenge for more work, which he said signifies that good work pays.
The Umueri President General said that as the ambassador of peace with the United Nations, everything he is doing is geared towards maintenance of relative peace not just in Umueri but in Omambala and Anambra state in general.
A friend and the National President Anambra State Association of Town Union, ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo who said he came to share in the joy of Igwe Emeka, his friend Chief Metchie and the people of Umueri described the conferment of Ezi Umueri Chieftaincy title on Chief Metchie as a well deserving honour as according to him, people testify of his good works to the community and beyond.
Others who spoke at the event which featured capping and decoration of Chief Metchie and his wife, Linda as well as cultural dances include the Principal of New Era Secondary School Nteje, Mrs Nkiru Enemuo among others.
