Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Nigerians have been urged to shun electoral fraud and violence. Speaking in Awka, a Public Policy Analyst, Chief, Jude Emecheta charged Nigerians to use the coming election to take ownership of the country.

Paul Ezeoke reports that Chief Emecheta enjoined the electorate to resist being lured by politicians to sell their votes and mortgage the future of their children.

He noted that with the amended electoral act and improved use of technology by the, Independent National Electoral Commission, Nigerians now have the opportunity to make strong statements in providing permanent solutions to leadership challenges in the country and change the entire narrative.

He called on the National Assembly to provide a stronger legal framework that could effectively checkmate the issues of selling and vote buying to further strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.

Chief Emecheta stressed the need for INEC to accelerate preparation for the elections to ensure that both its permanent personnel and adhoc staff are properly trained and retrained for the exercise, while adequate logistics should be procured to avoid hitches, and ensure that allegations of non-Nigerians being registered to vote in the elections should be properly investigated.

He called on the federal government and security agencies to take more proactive measures to tackle the challenges of insecurity across the country to provide conducive and enabling environment for the elections, stressing that Nigeria’s borders should be closed weeks ahead of the elections to prevent nationals from neighbouring countries from sneaking into the country to participate in the exercise.

Meanwhile Governor Chukwuma Soludo has continued to receive commendations for embarking on mass road reconstruction projects in different parts of the state.

In his reaction, an All Progressives Grand Alliance Chieftain, Dr Mike Omenugha said that the Governor has remained consistent in fulfilling campaign promises made to Ndị Anambra towards uplifting the standards of living of the people.

Dr Omenugha noted that his strategic approach to road construction will open up the hinterland and link up communities across the state which he said will boost socio-economic activities and enable food basket communities to distribute their produce to various parts of the state in line with the agricultural policy of the Governor to achieve food security.

He pointed out that the road projects would also attract more investors to boost the manufacturing sector and create more employment opportunities.

Dr Omenugha urged residents of the state to be alive to their civic responsibilities through prompt payments of taxes and levies to generate funds for the government to meet its obligations.
