Aguata Local Government Area has opened a digital hub targeted at increasing the digital skills of people of the area thereby closing the unemployment gap.
The hub was commissioned with the training of over one hundred and twenty youths from the council area in different areas of Information Communication Technologies and the facility houses a library, classroom, ICT hub and a Café.
Onyinye Agubaeze reports that commissioning the project, the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Honourable Tony Collins Nwabunwanne said that the facility is in line with the initiative of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration in making the state the industrial hub of Africa.
Commissioner Nwabuwanne thanked Governor Soludo for being the solution sought by Ndi Anambra, and commended the Aguta Local Government Transition Committee Chairman, Dr Chibueze Ofobuike, for taking the bold step towards youth empowerment, noting that he has set precedence for other local governments.
He stated that Governor Soludo is interested in youth development and advised the trainees to take advantage of the rare opportunity.
In his welcome address, the Transition Committee Chairman of Aguata Local Government Area, Dr Ofobuike, said that the one hundred and twenty trainees who were drawn from the fourteen communities in the areas were trained in closed-circuit television, installation and solar engineering.
According to Dr. Ofobuike, with technological advancement and high rate of unemployment, it is critical for youths to be involved in digital skill acquisition.
In their separate remarks, the special adviser to the governor on youth empowerment programmes, Dr Nelson Omenugha, and the Managing Director of Anambra State Information Communication Technology Agency, Mr Chukwuemeka Agbata, congratulated the Transition Committee Chairman on the new feat and called for the inclusion of non-indigenes and persons living with disabilities into the programme.
Others who spoke during the event were the facilitator of the training, Mr Godwin Ezeabasili, the traditional ruler of Ezinifite, Igwe Bob Orji, and the Chairman, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA Aguata Local Government Area Mr Vitalis Okoroakor.
Some of the beneficiaries including Mr Linus Ezedienyi and Miss Chineye Chikwando expressed gratitude to the Chairman for the opportunity and promised to be productive and to make their communities proud.
