Floods are devastating several communities in Anambra West, Anambra East and Ayamelum local government areas. .

 

The water level is increasing at alarming rate destroying houses, farm lands and produce, schools and health centres while men, women and children were seen stranded.

National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and Anambra State Management Agency, SEMA second day of their assessment tour, visited Umurze Anam,Oromi,Ezi Anam,Ifite Anam, Mkpunado Otu Aguleri, Enugu Otu Aguleri among others.

 

In those communities, roofs of many bungalows could barely be seen as they have been submerged.

 

Speaking with the ABS after the tour,Mr Chukwudi Onyejekwe,a Director at SEMA, described the level of destruction of the areas visited as catastrophic and appealed to those affected to move upland to Holding Centres to save their lives.

He explained that the floods are also contaminated with lots of diseases and called on good spirited individuals to join efforts with government to give the needed assistance to the victims.

 

Some of the victims, including Mrs Nkiruka Chukwuka and Mr Amechi Uyammadu lamented at the level of loss they have suffered because of the flood but thanked God for life even as they appealed for help.

The team later visited IDP camps at Igbakwu and Ifite Ogwari communities and observed that a few number of the affected persons have begun to arrive there.
