The state government has flagged off Labour Intensive Public Workfare LIPW, for Nnewi and Ekwulobia Communities.

 

The LIPW, which is under Anambra State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, AN-CARES Programme, is implemented by the Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency, ANSCSDA.

LIPW is intended to provide temporary employment opportunities to vulnerable populations through projects like development and maintenance of local infrastructure, that do not require special skills.

 

Addressing the workers, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake pointed out that the objective of the LIPW is to provide immediate employment opportunities in the social sector, address the emergency constraints of loss of labour income among the poor and vulnerable households as a result of COVID-19.

She revealed that the workers will be issued identity cards after enrollment into the programme and be entitled to monthly stipends based on attendance and satisfactory performance of work assigned to them as well as periodic life skill training to prepare them for productive life after the completion of the AN-CARES programme.

 

Mrs. Nnake revealed that the state government has decided to channel the AN-CARES Programme into the environment in order to ensure all round cleanliness in major cities across the state to be supervised by the local government, ASWAMA team before payments by the ANCSDA.

Contributing, the Administration officer for ASWAMA, Mrs. Chinelo Obi, assured of the agency’s readiness to work all round the clock to ensure timely evacuation of the debris and charged them to work professionally as the agency will not condole incompetence at all sorts.

 

Some of the workers, individually asked questions on issues facing them including, identity cards, payments model, work duration and specifications among others.
