The Anambra East Chief Marine Captain, Chief Boniface Ilegbunam has called on the people who travel through water to always put on their life jackets.

Chief Ilegbunam who spoke to the ABS in Umuoba Anam, Otuocha, said that life jacket serves like seat belts in motors and must be put on at all times by those who travel through the water for them to safeguard their lives.

He regretted the recent boat mishap in the State, saying that had the occupants of the ill-fated boat wore their life jackets, the casualties would have been minimally reduced.

According to Chief Ilegbunam, it is an offence for any boat captain to convey passengers who refuse to wear life jackets through water and urged people who travel through water or may wish to do so, to always insist on wearing their life jackets.

The Anambra East Chief Marine Captain, who commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration on their positive response to the flood victims in the state, called on the Federal Government, National Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to urgently bring relief materials to the flood victims as people are dying of hunger and hopelessness.

He therefore appealed to all those who may wish to visit the flood victims to always insist on wearing life jackets anytime they would want to move through the water and urged the Anambra state government to procure more of the lifesaving items.
