It was a day of thanksgiving and joy as the Chairman of Pokobros Group West African Limited, Chief Paul Okonkwo and his wife, Florence, celebrated eightieth and sixty birthdays respectively at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha, where His Eminence, Peter Cardinal Okpalaeke led other Bishops in a concelebrated high mass.

 

Eminent Nigerians, Family members, traditional rulers and traditional Prime Ministers from different towns in Anambra state, top government officials, captains of industry as well as Governor Chukwuma Soludo graced the thanksgiving mass.

In a homily with the theme “A Thankful and Joyful Heart Is a Gift” the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Reverend Jonas Benson Okoye described Chief Okonkwo as a generous man who loves God and humanity.

 

Most Reverend Okoye said it is necessary to give thanks to God for His numerous blessings and eulogized Mrs Florence Okonkwo for being supportive to the husband.

Governor Soludo said he came to identify with his brother, for living an impactful life, urged the affluents to visit and assist over forty thousand persons in various holding centers in Anambra state displaced by deluge.

 

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke represented by the Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Very Reverend Father Prudentus Aroh spoke on the need to celebrate and give one encouragement while alive.

Addressing the people, the celebrant, Chief Okonkwo thanked everybody for what he described as a massive show of love.

 

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor led in a special birthday blessing for the celebrants after which he presented rosaries to them.

Thanksgiving, cutting of birthday cakes, musical performance, presentation of gifts among others featured during the event.
