Anambra State Government Task Force has warned illegal developers against building without approvals across the state, as it goes contrary to Governor Soludo’s objective of achieving a livable and prosperous homeland.
Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana, reports that the state joint task force gave the warning after it carried out partial demolition on some structures built without approval, marked some others for demolition at the old Airport site Oba, Idemili South Council Area, Marine and Woliwo, in Onitsha.
Speaking to the ABS, Chairman of Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barrister Chike Mmaduekwe, regretted that many government lands released to developers were high-jacked by gangs of youths and hoodlums who measure the same lands into parts, sell and resell to innocent people who fall into their trap.
While stating that these hoodlums also mandate developers who had previously paid money to the government to pay additional huge amount of money to them, Barrister Mmaduekwe said that the state government has paid all necessary compensations to the communities, hence no one has any right to encroach on government property.
According to Barrister Mmaduekwe, the developers were warned to do what is right and regularize the buildings being constructed at the site or risk demolition of the buildings.
Recall that the task force had visited and carried out some enforcement at the old Airport site few months ago.
The team equally visited Marine and Woliwo and Portharcourt roads, all in Onitsha, to continue with the demolition of illegal structures in the areas.
Few months ago, the government task force had marked some buildings in the areas for demolition.
Barrister Mmaduekwe explained that some selfish individuals have encroached on government land and that of private owners, thereby hindering development of the areas.
He warned that the government can not condone any form of illegality and hooliganism in the state, stressing that the vision of the state Governor is to make Anambra state a green, planned and livable place, which can be achieved with the help of everyone in the state. Barrister Mmaduekwe added that the Ministry of Land has issued a new policy that anyone doing any project on government land should get a letter of clearance from the ministry before the commencement of any work, after which the developers should go to Anambra State Physical Planning Board with letter of clearance to get building approval.
While expressing their readiness to partner the state government, the Chairman Ukwa Family Land Committee, Umuasele village Onitsha, Mr. Nnamdi Obigbo, said that they complained to government when they started observing activities of some illegal developers in the area, advising the citizenry that things should be done decently and in order.
Also speaking, the Secretary of Ukwa family, Mr. Victor Arinze, commended the action of the state government in ensuring sanity, and particularly praised the Governor for trying to control the drainage system, expressing optimism that those who were served notices will comply.
The Task Force also visited Isu village in Oba, where they served notice, marked all the illegal structures being built in the area for demolition, as well as Nkwelle Ezunaka, where some partial demolitions were also carried out.
