The ancient kingdom of Onitsha Ado N’idu went agog as the traditional ruler Igwe Alfred Achebe celebrated 2022 Ofala festival after two years of COVID-19 pandemic.
The event which also featured the twentieth-year coronation anniversary of Igwe Achebe was sponsored by the first indigenous telecommunication industry, Globacom Limited.
The event attracted various traditional rulers from the state and beyond, technocrats, top government functionaries, political stalwarts among other dignitaries.
Addressing his subjects, the Obi of Onitsha Igwe Achebe expressed gratitude to God for the gift of life and same to the people of Onitsha for their unflinching support for the past twenty years of ascending the throne of Ezechima.
Igwe Achebe who enumerated various innovations and transformations that have taken place in Onitsha Since he ascended the throne called for a renewed commitment for the upliftment of the town.
In his speech, Professor Chukwuma Soludo commended Ndi Onitsha for sustaining their rich cultural heritage and urged other communities in the state to emulate them in promoting their culture as it is their identity.
Governor Soludo who decried the dilapidated nature of roads in Onitsha promised to commence rehabilitation of these roads within the next two weeks.
Speaking to the ABS, the state Commissioner for Education Mrs Ngozi Chuma Udeh and her Culture, Tourism and Entertainment counterpart, comrade Don Onyenji, commended Onitsha community and her monarch for keeping their culture alive, highlighting the efforts by the present administration in the state to ensure that Igbo language and culture are given their pride of place in the state’s education sector and beyond.
Various guests at the occasion eulogised Onitsha and her traditional stool for sustaining their culture.
Meanwhile the sponsor of the 2022 Ofala Onitsha Festival, Globacom Limited has floated special Ofala Promo, where it’s lucky subscribers will win two tricycles, five sewing machines, and five grinding mills, to better their lives.
Highpoints of the Ofala celebration were the outings and royal dance steps to egwu ota by the Igwe and the obi in council.
