Stakeholders at the Anambra state stakeholders’ summit on 2023 Population and Housing Census have called on the census umpire in Nigeria to foster national peace and encourage even development by delivering a credible and reliable census come 2023.

 

The summit with the Theme ‘‘Getting the people involved’’ was attended by traditional rulers, presidents general, women leaders, the clergy, security agencies, civil society groups and government officials, among others.

Speaking shortly after the programme, the National Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, who noted that the census is long overdue said that the National Population Commission has a great job as it regards delivering a credible census.

 

The Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in the 2023 general elections for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu who commended the summit said that it will help to mitigate possible challenges usually witnessed in the previous census.

He called on the census umpire to ensure that they keep to its promise to conduct a digital, reliable and acceptable census and assured to provide support at the grassroots to encourage adequate participation of Ndi Anambra.

 

The State President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emeka Udodeme, said that Ndigbo should not miss the opportunity to increase their number for national relevance and commended Governor Soludo for his efforts in getting Ndi Anambra involved.

For Chief Jude Emecheta, who is a former Managing Director of Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency as well as the APGA Candidate for Oyi State Constituency, Sir Innocent Ojike, census is as important as electing leaders as the outcome plays major role in citing development.

 

They harped on the need for effective grassroots sensitization through radio announcements, town hall meetings and help of the church and market leaders to achieve the needed result.
