People of Achalla in Awka North local government area have celebrated one year on the throne of their traditional ruler, Igwe Ositadimma Nwokedi, as well the “Iru Ji Ora”, of the community.

 

The eight villages that make up the Community, cabinet chiefs, titled men and women, past and present political appointees, friends and well-wishers gathered for the celebration.

Queen Anigbogu reports that the celebration commenced with Igwe Nwokedi and his cabinet chiefs visiting the Obu Uthoko na Eze where breaking of kolanut and” itu nzu”, rituals were observed, before they went to the venue for the festival.

 

The traditional ruler while breaking the kolanut appreciated God for his one-year on the throne and for the bountiful harvest that enabled the people of the community to also celebrate “Iru Ji Ora”.

Igwe Nwokedi who prayed for the people appealed to them to continue to live in peace.

 

The wife of the traditional ruler, Mrs Timoney Nwokedi, described the ceremony as beautiful and called for proper child upbringing.

 

In his remarks the President-General of the community, Chief Nnamdi Ikwunne, noted that Achalla as an agrarian Community has contributed immensely to the development of Anambra State and appealed to the government to provide them with basic amenities like roads, schools, hospital and others.

A member of the Igwe’s cabinet, Mr Patrick Nworah, lamented the devastating effects of this year’s deluge on their community and enjoined the government to employ technology in tackling such disaster.

 

Also speaking the Palace Secretary, Chief Akunwata Uyanwa, noted that the celebration provides an opportunity for closer interaction among members of the town and appreciated all that graced the occasion.

Igwe Nwokedi during the ceremony admitted Senator Uche Ekwunife into the cabinet membership of Achalla Community for her positive contributions to the community.

 

Various individuals and groups paid homage to IgweNwokedi, while cultural dance and masquerade displays also featured at the ceremony.
