A team of National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, officials and Anambra State Vigilante Group has apprehended and handed over to the police three alleged rapists at Enekwesumpu Nkpor, Idemili North Council Area.

Their arrest followed a rape complaint by a thirteen-year-old victim at Nkpor.

The victim, who was brought to the office of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabor, emotionally broke down in tears while narrating her ordeal.

She named Sunday, Emelie, Chiedu and Nwa Awọ as the four people that raped her though according to her, Nwa Awọ escaped arrest when security operatives invaded the neighborhood.

According to her, the suspects, who are her co-tenants, took her to Nkisi River to rape her after they had an altercation with her father.

She further stated that they slapped and dragged her to Nkisi River where she was ordered to remove her clothes as they had carnal knowledge of her.

Reacting to the ordeal, Honourable Obinabo, who lauded her courage in speaking out, assured her of justice and registered her displeasure over the increasing rate of rape in the state and warned that Professor Chukwuma Soludo led administration will not condone such.

She also commanded officials of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Nigeria Police Force and Anambra Vigilante Group for their efforts in ensuring that the suspects were apprehended.

During interrogation, two of the suspects pleaded guilty while one said he was only present when the incident happened but contrary to his claims, the victim insisted that he was the second person to have carnal knowledge of her.

They also admitted that they decided to rape the girl due to the disagreement they had with her father.

They have been handed over to the police and would be charged to court for prosecution.
