The member representing Anambra West Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Honourable Patrick Obalum-Udoba has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration for being responsive to the plights of the Internally Displaced Persons in Anambra state.

Honourable Udoba made this disclosure while speaking to newsmen in Awka, the Anambra state capital.

Commending the Anambra state government for not abandoning the flood displaced persons, the Lawmaker showered encomiums on governor Soludo for attending to the needs of the flood victims, but said that a lot more needs to be done as the displaced persons are about to return to their various homes as flood recedes.

Honourable Udoba who is the House Committee Chairman on Transport, also commended the Anambra state Emergency Management Agency, International Organizations, among others for harkening to the cries of the flood victims by donating various items like food stuffs, drugs, toiletries, clothes, money among others.

He called on the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to ensure the steady supply of relief materials to the affected persons in all the local government areas affected by the flood in Anambra state, most especially, Anambra East and West, Ayamelum, Ogbaru and Awka North Council Area.

According to him, federal government should as a matter of urgency dredge the rivers Niger and Omambala, as well as construct dams in the strategic areas across the country to forestall the annual flood disaster that has caused Nigerians fortunes and loss of lives annually.

Honourable Udoba revealed that there is an ongoing bill at the Anambra state House of Assembly, to establish Anambra Riverine Commission, whose sole responsibility when signed into law would be to cater for the overall good of the Riverine Communities in the state.

He therefore assured that the state House of Assembly will synergize with the Executive arm to make Anambra prosperous and livable homeland.
