The wife of the Governor of Anambra State Dr Nonye Soludo has presented empowerment kits to more than seventy graduates of Skill Acquisition Centre in Awka.

 

The skill acquisition centre domicile in the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, is graduating students annually in different skills to help them become self-reliant.

the 2021 batch had spent the mandatory one-year training at the centre, and brings the total number of graduates from the Centre so far since inception in 2008 to one thousand two hundred and twenty-nine.

 

The current programme was organized in collaboration with a non-governmental organization, Ebuka Okafor Foundation.

Equipment given to the graduands were sewing machines, hair drying machines and mechanized ovens, among others tools.

 

There was also a display of different products produced by the students.

Addressing the graduands, Dr Soludo explained that her husband’s administration is keen in investing in youths, and has started series of schemes that target Anambra youths.

 

The governor’s wife said that the training and empowerment were to prepare the graduands for the future, by giving them the necessary skills and platforms to be financially independent and become useful to their homes and Anambra State.

She promised to always check up on the success of graduands, and urged them to be committed to their craft and pursue their careers with truth and hard work.

 

In her address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo noted that the skill acquisition training has greatly benefitted Anambra and non-Anambra indigenes, and asked the graduands to be better ambassadors of the centre everywhere

The Commissioner also urged them to use their skills to make a better living for themselves, their families and society, and add to the economic growth of the State.

The Wife of the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Lady Oluchi Ibezim was present during the ceremony.
