A philanthropist and community leader in Umuawulu, Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Martin Ekweozor has celebrated his maiden new yam festival .

 

The cultural event held at Prince Ekweozor’s country home in Agbana village, Umuawulu, attracted friends, townsmen, business associates, and featured masquerades, cultural dance displays, among others.

Among the visitors were the President General of Nibo community, Professor Tony Nwokoye, and Chief Chukwunonso Nwokike, also from Nibo, who said the event is all about promoting Igbo culture by celebrating yam as king of crops, and described the celebrant as man of the people.

 

Others, including the House of Assembly candidate for Awka North Two Constituency, Honourable Gozie Ekweozor, and Honourable Patrick Ezekwudo, said such cultural event helps in promoting Igbo culture and tradition, as well as strengthening bond of unity for members of the communities.

In his remark, the celebrant, Prince Ekweozor, said bountiful harvest calls for such celebration, coming after the traditional ruler of Umuawulu, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu, had performed iwa ji as custom demands.

 

He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his efforts in governance so far, and called for people’s support to enable him deliver on his campaign promises.

While calling on people to vote competence in coming general elections, Prince Ekweozor called for government attention to the needs of communities that make up Obizi, noting that developmental projects in the area are mostly from individual efforts.
