It was like a classic movie, accompanied by rich cultural displays at the Ogbiti-Oji palace in Umueve village, Ajalli, Orumba North Local Government Area, as illustrious sons and daughters of the community thronged the venue to celebrate the coronation and presentation of their new traditional ruler, Eze Augustine Iroamuche Nwangwu.
The traditional ruler who is the Eze the Seventh of Ajalli Kingdom was crowned and presented to the community at the Ogbiti-Oji Ime-obi, the home of the traditional stool of the community.
The joy of having a new monarch after several years of vacant kingship by the people of the community was made manifest during the occasion with dances, accompanied by traditional music and drums.
Sets of masquerades from Ajalli, Umunze and Arochukwu that took the centre stage held the spectators spellbound even as some passersby struggled to catch a glimpse of the performances.
Ajalli, often referred to as Ujalli by her indigenes, has a close ancestral linkage with Arochukwu in Abia State, therefore it has a rich mix of Aro culture together with the culture of her neighbors.
The Eze Nwangwu who was ushered in a procession with the Umuoti family, following release of canon shots, expressed gratitude to the community for considering him worthy to occupy the position of a traditional ruler in the community, assuring that his reign will restore peace and bring about progress and development in the community.
The traditional ruler who stated that his reign will reinvent stimulating activities, cultural values and traditions in which Ajalli is known, beckoned on the entire Community to join hands with him to realize his vision for the community.
Some members of the Umuoti kindred, including Mr. Ononuju Oti and Mr. Emmanuel Obasi, described the event as historical after a long time without having a king, following the demise of the past Eze in the community and called on everyone to support the king, adding that Ajalli is a gifted community that cherishes peace.
According to the traditional ruler’s cousin and a member of the Royal Cabinet, Engineer Chidi Oji, the celebration marks the beginning of a new era in the community, revealing that since the demise of the former king, the community has been battling with the issues of protracted court cases about Ezeship.
The Chairman of Umuoji Family, Mr. Victor Okororji and a member of the Umuoji family, Mr. Oliver Oti, said that it was an occasion long expected, appealing to the monarch to use his position to restore peace and orderliness in the community.
